Spanish conquistador Don Tristan de Luna first attempted to settle in Pensacola
in 1559. Today, visitors are treated to the long and varied history of the city,
a history painted by the Spanish, French, British, Confederates and Americans
who all flew their flags here. Each year the city celebrates the founding of
Pensacola during the Festival of Five Flags. Activities include parades, dances
and an array of seafood. The National Museum of Naval Aviation, the Pensacola
Historical Museum and the Civil War Soldiers Museum are ideal places to learn
the history of Pensacola. Dinosaur Adventure Land also proves to be a fun and
educational attraction that aims to inform visitors about dinosaurs in the science
center, Creation Museum and theme park. Of course, Pensacola is also home to
some of the finest white sand beaches that line the Gulf of Mexico, making it
a prime tourist destination.
